Everything the diaspora must know before building in Africa

Frequently asked diaspora questions

Why build in Africa through a platform rather than directly with a cousin?
Because building remotely while relying on family to supervise exposes you to budget overruns, delays, lack of visibility and disputes. DiasporaBuild adds a contractual layer (contract, milestone payments, AI, mediation) that protects your savings without removing your family network: you remain the decision-maker, the platform secures the process.
How much does a DiasporaBuild account cost?
Registration is free. During the launch phase, the marketplace commission on milestone payments is 0% — versus the 8 to 15% of the project charged by an independent supervision firm. See the Pricing page for details.
Which countries are covered in 2026?
DiasporaBuild is currently developing its operational network in Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, with progressive expansion into additional African markets. Our guides, directories and resources cover 10 markets: Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Kenya.
Can I finance my build from France, Belgium, the United States or Canada?
Yes — our country guides reference the banks offering diaspora financing products in each market. You can prepare pre-approval from your host country without returning to Africa.
How does DiasporaBuild verify companies and architects?
Verification of legal registration (RCCM/CBI), VAT, professional bodies (MINHDU Order of Architects, BNETD, DUA, ARCON, BORAQS…), 10-year liability insurance, a portfolio of at least 3 past projects, and continuous client ratings.
What happens if there is a dispute with my contractor?
Free mediation handled by our team. If the dispute is unresolved: OHADA arbitration (UEMOA/CEMAC countries), ELC for Kenya, or the competent court depending on jurisdiction. Funds not yet released for the disputed milestone incentivise amicable resolution.
Does the AI really replace a site manager?
No — the AI (DIBO) complements the human role: it detects anomalies (walls out of square, insufficient rebar) on weekly photos, cross-checks against the quote, and alerts you if a disbursement is inconsistent. Decisions stay with the client and the architect.

Going further

DiasporaBuild is the B2B/B2C platform for construction managed from the African diaspora. Our guides, directories and resources cover ten Sub-Saharan African markets, and our community is growing step by step across France, Belgium, Germany, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Our difference: a clear contract, milestone payments released at each milestone validated by geolocated photos and AI reports (DIBO), and a mediation team reachable 7 days a week in French, English, Wolof, Dioula, Lingala and Swahili. Building your villa in Yaoundé, your duplex in Abidjan Cocody, your residence in Dakar Almadies or your rental building in Nairobi Kilimani becomes a controlled project, not a gamble. Join the diaspora community that builds with confidence.
